Beginning Knitting

Make adorable fingerless mitts for yourself or a special gift. You’ll learn all the knitting basics including the knit and purl stitches, ribbing (think the cuffs of your mittens), casting on (starting) and binding off (stopping), and how to finish your project so it looks professional. This 4-week class meets once per week.

Beginning Crochet

Make pretty crochet sampler mitts while you learn all the crochet basics. In this class you’ll learn the chain (start), single, double, a half-double crochet, as well as how to block and sew up your mitts.

Beginning Knitting for Crocheters

You’ll make the same project as the Beginning Knitting class, but using a knitting method where you carry the yarn in your left hand – just like crochet.

Twisted Knitting – Better known as Cables

Carrie Burns is one of the four brilliant women who own Stolen Minutes. Carrie makes the adorable project bags we feature at Strings Attached. She also knits a lot and is a natural teacher. This fall, Carrie will help you step your hat knitting up a notch with the fabulous Irving hat. You can make a beanie or more slouchy shape in just two or three class sessions.

Class Fee: $60 plus materials
Prerequisite Skills: Knit and purl, familiar with double point needles

Knitting 102 – Carrie’s Striped Hat

Carrie will help you step your knitting up a notch using two colors of sport wt. merino wool. The colors of Schoppel-Wolle’s Ambiente give you the look of fair isle knitting without using lots of different colors. You’ll refresh your ribbing skills, knit in the round using two balls of yarn, and learn a typical hat crown decrease.

To enjoy this class you need to know how to knit and purl.

Fee:$45. (pattern included) Materials additional

Materials: 2 balls of merino sport wt, yarn, appropriate size 16” circular needle in gauge size and one sz smaller, DPNs in gauge size, stitch marker, tapestry needle)

Stranded Crochet Cowl

Join Kristen for a two-week class to make a version of the Blomma Cowl from the winter 2016 Love of Crochet. The Blomma Cowl is chock full of fun and timesaving crochet techniques including foundation double crochet, front and back post stitches and stranded colorwork. You can choose to make a Nordic style (two color) or Fair Isle style (four color) cowl. To enjoy this class, you’ll need to be comfortable with carrying your yarn in your left hand, double crochet, and single crochet.

Cost $45 (pattern included), cowl materials additional

Materials: 2-4 colors of worsted wt yarn (4), sz G and H hooks

Blocking, Construction, and Finishing

This hands-on class will take you through the process of blocking, constructing, and finishing your handknits. We’ll look at a variety of blocking techniques and when to apply them. In the construction class, we’ll put the pieces of a garment together based on pattern instructions and sensible garment construction practices. The last session will focus on picking up stitches for necklines and button bands, buttonholes, and other fun finishing touches.

Cost $30/class or $85/all three

Materials: a lace project that needs blocking (a swatch will do), a garment that needs to be blocked and constructed (including yarn and notions), swatches as needed to learn new techniques, Blocking surface, pins, and wires; seaming pins or clips; tapestry needles

Additional information on class requirements and activities will be given to registered class members.

Class Policies

Classes size is limited by teacher preference, typically 3 to 5 students.

Full payment of the class fee secures your spot in the class. If you withdraw from the class at least two weeks before the class begins we will refund 50% of your fee.

Materials must be purchased at Strings Attached, preferably before the first day of class. If you already have the appropriate needles or hooks, please use them for the class.

If we have to cancel the class for any reason, we will refund your entire class fee or apply it to a future class, whichever you prefer.
